Shisha Mixology – Become a flavor master

Why just smoke standard when you can create your own personal taste? Welcome to the area Mixology. Here you will find tobacco varieties that are perfect for mixing. No matter whether you want to combine a fruity Virginia with a tart dark blend or want to give the whole thing a fresh kick - here you are the boss in the kitchen.

The art of mixing: 3 basic rules

There is no “wrong way” when it comes to blending, but a few tips will help you achieve the perfect result:

  • ⚖️ The base (50-60%): Choose a dominant main flavor (e.g. berries, grape or tea). Brands like Blackburn (e.g. Green T) or Darkside are perfect for this.
  • 🍓 The grade (30-40%): Add a fruity or creamy component to round out the main flavor. Here are the pure flavors of Aqua Mentha (e.g. Golden Anna) ideal.
  • ❄️ The kick (10-20%): Finally, some coolness (Supernova, Menthol) or acidity (Blackburn Shok) to make the mix exciting.

Mix Virginia & Darkblend? A resounding yes!

Many people don't dare to mix light and dark tobacco. This is the ultimate insider tip!
The advantage: You combine the heat resistance and spice of Darkblend with the sweetness and lightness of Virginia. If pure Darkside is too strong for you, simply mix it 50/50 with a light Aqua Mentha.

Important when building your head: Mix the two types of tobacco well beforehand on a board or in a bowl (“premix”) so that the heat is absorbed evenly.

Frequently asked questions about mixology (FAQ)

Can I mix different brands?
Yes, absolutely! You can mix any brand with any other. Just make sure the cut is similar. If one is very coarse, cut it a little first so that the mixture is homogeneous.
Should I “layer” or “mix”?
We recommend **mixing** before building. This way you have the same taste with every puff. "Layering" (sectors in the head) is more for advanced users who want the taste to change during the session (e.g. first fruit, later coolness).
Which head is suitable for mixes?
Both phunnel and multi-hole heads work. We usually recommend one for dark blend and Virginia mixes Phunnel, as the molasses of the different types stay together well and do not run off.
