What accessories do I need as a shisha beginner?
Start with the basics: head gaskets, aluminum foil or an HMD, carbon tongs, valve balls and a cleaning brush. These parts ensure that your shisha is tight, the bowl construction works and you can clean up after the session.
How often should I clean my shisha?
Ideally after every session. Rinse the bowl with warm water and a brush, rinse the smoke column and blow out the hose. For deep cleaning, we recommend our cleaning balls every 1-2 weeks.
What is an HMD and is it worth it?
HMD stands for Heat Management Device. It replaces the classic aluminum foil and regulates the heat more evenly. Electric HMDs like the XKAH Pro in particular make coal completely unnecessary - ideal for comfortable smoking without ash.
Which bowl suits my shisha?
Most modern hookahs use a standard bowl connection. Pay attention to the inside diameter of your smoke column (usually 18.8mm). Phunnel bowls are particularly suitable for moist tobacco as the molasses does not run into the column.
What's the point of a molasses catcher?
A molasses catcher sits between the head and the smoke column and catches excess molasses before it drips into the column. This keeps your shisha cleaner and significantly extends the intervals between deep cleanings.
Why is my shisha leaking?
Most common causes: worn head gasket, missing or incorrect valve ball, loose hose connection. Check all connections and replace seals regularly - rubber seals cost only 1 EUR and make a big difference.
Do I need a windbreak?
A windbreak is almost mandatory for outdoor sessions - it protects the coal from the wind and ensures even heat distribution. It can also make the session more stable indoors with the windows open.
What is the advantage of a drying mat?
A silicone drying mat like the HX drying mat protects your surface from moisture, heat and scratches. It also serves as a head construction base and can be easily rinsed off - a practical multi-tool for every session.
