ONMO HMD Stainless Steel Flat
The Onmo Stainless Steel HMD Flat (officially ONMO HMD Stainless Steel Flat) is the flat version of the new stainless steel Onmo - this time without a bar design, with a completely flat base in the style of a Na Grani. This ensures even heat distribution and minimizes spot burning, even with aggressive packing style. Includes removable base plate (3 mm) and space for 2 coals up to 27 mm. Exclusively presented at the Shisha Fair Frankfurt 2026 and at HookahX as one of the very first shops in Germany. Dimensions: 7.5cm × 6.6cm × 2.6cm.
The Onmo Stainless Steel HMD Flat (officially ONMO HMD Stainless Steel Flat) is the flat version of the stainless steel Onmo, which was developed three years ago. Here Onmo consciously foregoes the iconic bar design on the floor and uses - for example Na Grani — on a completely flat subfloor. The result: more even heat distribution across the entire tobacco surface and significantly less spot burning - no matter what packing style you use.
The new Onmo stainless steel was presented exclusively at the Shisha Fair Frankfurt 2026. At HookahX you can get the Onmo Steel Flat as one of the very first shops in Germany - before most competitors even start with a pre-order. Stainless steel retains heat longer than aluminum and requires slightly more precise heat management, rewarding you with an extremely consistent session and maximum flavor from molasses-rich tobaccos.
Onmo Stainless Steel Flat — flat subfloor instead of beams (like a Na Grani)
The Onmo Stainless Steel Flat completely dispenses with the bar design on the bottom and is completely in the style of one Na Grani — on one completely flat underbody. This means that the heat is distributed evenly over the entire contact area and pinpoint burning is minimized, even with an aggressive packing style. If you want to get maximum consistency from a stainless steel smokebox, the Flat is the right choice.
Interchangeable base plate & upcoming exchange set
The absolute killer feature of the new Onmo stainless steel: the Base plate can be unscrewed and replaced. You can reconfigure your HMD at any time and essentially turn one smokebox into several. Onmo will become an official soon Exchange set including tool tool bring them onto the market, with which you can then buy exactly these floor panels individually and change them as you wish.
Until the set is released, you can simply get the Onmo Steel from us in the variant you want - each HMD is of course delivered with the corresponding base plate (Classic with bars / Flat without bars). So if you want to switch now, get the right variant and be prepared for the exchange set later.
The right setup for the Onmo stainless steel flat
Combine the Onmo stainless steel with a high-quality one Phunnel head — e.g. the Oblako Phunnel M, the Hookain LitLip or a Vandenberg V1. Thanks to the 6.6 cm contact surface and the 5.5 cm opening, the HMD sits flush on almost all modern heads. For a more selection of matching attachments and smokeboxes, take a look at our complete range Smokebox category.
We recommend 2 × 26-27 mm as carbon Natural charcoal. Since stainless steel retains heat longer than aluminum, often even less coal is needed than with the classic aluminum onmo. Always let the HMD cool down completely after the session and do not clean it directly from the charcoal lighter.
Onmo Stainless Steel Classic vs. Flat – which variant is right for you?
Onmo is releasing the new stainless steel HMD in two base shapes - both already listed with us:
- Onmo Stainless Steel Classic (ONMO HMD Stainless Steel Classic): Classic version with dimpled bottom — iconic bar design like the original Onmo, more flavor intensity through targeted contact points, flexible heat management (contactless / bar / full contact).
- Onmo Stainless Steel Flat (ONMO HMD Stainless Steel Flat): Flat version with a flat base — Na-Grani style without bars, more even heat distribution and less spot burning when packed tightly.
Short formula: Classic = peak taste + flexibility, Flat = consistency + clean smoking behavior. Both benefit from stainless steel heat retention.
That's why the Onmo Stainless Steel Flat is the right choice
- Stainless steel premium: Higher heat retention & consistency for long sessions and molasses-rich tobaccos.
- Modular system: Base plate can be unscrewed - suitable for the upcoming official exchange set.
- Trade fair premiere 2026: Available directly to Frankfurt - HookahX is one of the first shops in Germany.
- Proven Onmo Style: Same iconic shape as the original Onmo, now with steel performance.
- Top compatibility: Fits almost all phunnel and multi-hole heads (5.5 cm opening, 6.6 cm rim).

What is the Onmo Stainless Steel HMD?
The Onmo Edelstahl HMD (officially Onmo HMD Stainless Steel) is the new stainless steel version of the well-known Onmo smokebox - three years of development, presented at the Shisha Fair Frankfurt 2026. In contrast to the original aluminum version, the Onmo stainless steel retains heat significantly longer and delivers more consistent heat management - ideal for long sessions and molasses-rich tobaccos.
What is the difference between Onmo stainless steel and the aluminum version?
Stainless steel conducts and stores heat differently than aluminum: The Onmo stainless steel HMD gets hotter overall and maintains the temperature longer, which ensures more flavor, especially with moist tobacco types with a high molasses content. This requires a little more precise heat management so that the tobacco doesn't burn.
What is the difference between Onmo Stainless Steel Classic and Flat?
Does the Onmo Stainless Steel Flat have a replaceable base?
Yes. The base plate (7 cm diameter, 3 mm material thickness) can be unscrewed. Onmo will soon be releasing an official replacement set including tools with which you can then purchase individual floor panels. The Onmo Stainless Steel Flat with the flat underbody is currently available directly.
How many coals is the Onmo stainless steel designed for?
The Onmo stainless steel HMD comfortably accommodates 2 coals up to 27 mm. Since stainless steel retains heat longer than aluminum, 2 natural carbons are often enough for an intensive, long session.
Which head fits the Onmo stainless steel HMD?
The Onmo stainless steel has a 5.5 cm opening and 6.6 cm contact surface - it therefore fits all common phunnel and multi-hole heads. Popular combinations: Oblako Phunnel M, Hookain LitLip Phunnel or Vandenberg V1.
What colors is the Onmo stainless steel available in?
The flat version of the Onmo stainless steel comes in silver. The Classic version is available in silver and black. Both colors are available directly from the first production batch after the Frankfurt 2026 Shisha Fair.
Where was the Onmo stainless steel HMD introduced?
The new Onmo Stainless Steel (officially Onmo HMD Stainless Steel) was presented exclusively at the Frankfurt 2026 Shisha Fair and has been available in the first wave of sales since then. At HookahX you are one of the very first customers in Germany who can get this HMD.
How is the Onmo Stainless Steel Flat cleaned?
Allow the smokebox to cool completely after each session. Thanks to the screw system, the Onmo stainless steel can be completely dismantled - unscrew the base plate, clean it with warm water and a soft brush, and if there are heavy residues, soak it briefly in water with citric acid. Never preheat directly on a charcoal lighter.
Is the Onmo stainless steel worth it over the Onmo aluminum?
If you regularly smoke long sessions, work a lot with dark blend or molasses-rich strains, or simply want maximum heat retention - then yes, the Onmo Stainless Steel is a clear upgrade. However, the Alu-Onmo remains a top choice for a classic Phunnel setup with Virginia.
Is the Onmo stainless steel HMD suitable for beginners?
We recommend the Onmo Stainless Steel to more advanced smokers, as stainless steel retains more heat and errors in carbon management can lead to burnt tobacco more quickly. Beginners often do better with the classic Onmo HMD Aluminum until they have their heat management under control.
When will the Onmo exchange set with tools be available?
Onmo has announced an exchange set including a tool with which you can buy individual floor panels (Classic / Flat) and change them as you wish. An exact release date is still pending - you can currently get the Onmo stainless steel delivered directly with the matching base plate.
