What accessories do I need as a shisha beginner?

Start with the basics: head seals, aluminum foil or an HMD, charcoal tongs, valve balls and a cleaning brush. These parts make sure your shisha stays airtight, the head building works, and you can clean up after your session.

How often should I clean my shisha?

Ideally after every session. Rinse the bowl with warm water and a brush, flush the smoke column, and blow out the hose. For a deep clean we recommend our cleaning balls every 1-2 weeks.

What is an HMD and is it worth it?

HMD stands for Heat Management Device. It replaces classic aluminum foil and regulates the heat more evenly. Electric HMDs in particular, like the XKAH Pro, make charcoal completely unnecessary — ideal for convenient smoking without ash flying around.

Which bowl suits my shisha?

Most modern shishas use a standard head connector. Pay attention to the inner diameter of your smoke column (usually 18.8mm). Phunnel bowls are particularly well suited for moist tobacco, since the molasses doesn't run into the column.

What's the point of a molasses catcher?

A molasses catcher sits between the head and the smoke column and catches excess molasses before it drips into the column. This keeps your shisha cleaner and significantly extends the intervals between deep cleans.

Why is my shisha leaking?

Most common causes: a worn bowl grommet, a missing or wrong valve ball, a loose hose connection. Check all connections and replace grommets regularly — rubber grommets are inexpensive and make a big difference.

Do I need a windbreak?

For outdoor sessions a wind cover is almost a must — it protects the charcoal from wind and ensures even heat distribution. Indoors too, it can make the session more stable when windows are open.

What is the advantage of a drying mat?

A silicone drip mat like the HX Abtropfmatte protects your surface from moisture, heat and scratches. It also serves as a head-building mat and is easy to rinse off — a practical multitool for every session.
