Moze Varity Squad Black – Smoke Column Set – Black Steel

The smoke column set deliberately leaves out one part: the glass bowl. Included is the Varity Squad with smoke column, dip tube, charcoal plate and the base with 4 hose connections — what goes on top is up to you. That's exactly the point of this configuration, because according to Moze the Varity accepts both push-fit and screw bowls, so you're not locked into a particular glass or closure type.

In the Varity series, Black Steel means: stainless steel throughout, black coated, without a colored resin sleeve. Without the bowl, the setup stands approx. 49 cm tall and weighs in at approx. 2.2 kg; with the bowl attached, the finished shisha is over 50 cm, which is why it's listed in the Large size class. Design & Finish: Black Steel on Squad Black

Black Steel does without the colored center piece of the Wavy variants: the smoke column stays stainless steel in black coating, with no acrylic/epoxy resin sleeve in between. This creates a consistently dark silhouette that draws its effect from the transitions between base, column and charcoal plate rather than from a color accent.

Because the bowl is missing, this variant shows the technology especially clearly — for example the blow-off, which Moze designs on the Varity as its own ring. It's an independent, replaceable component and can be positioned in two spots depending on the setup: up under the charcoal plate or down at the base. The charcoal plate measures 19 cm in diameter.

Individually adjustable draw

Even without a bowl, the core of the series remains: dip tube and smoke column can be split. Moze describes it as letting you decide for yourself how your Varity feels when smoking, and names the range between a more direct pull and a softer draw. The manufacturer doesn't dictate which configuration leads where — that's a matter for your own trial and error.

The diffuser sits at the lower end of the dip tube; it makes the draw quieter and smoother, not cloudier. The whole Varity is designed as a modular system: smoke column, dip tube, diffuser, sleeve, charcoal plate and blow-off ring are individual parts, and for smoke column and dip tube there are additionally extension segments for lengthening.

Moze Varity Squad or sister model? The comparison

Compared to the Varity Lounge, the Squad differs solely in the base: 4 hose connections instead of 1. Smoke column, dip tube, diffuser, charcoal plate and blow-off ring are the same components on both models, as are the height and weight. Unused connections are sealed off on the Squad — this is intended and has no negative effect.

The difference from the complete sets lies solely in the bowl: the Clear Bowl and Frosted Bowl come with clear or satin glass respectively, are approx. 52 cm tall and weigh approx. 4.1 kg. The smoke column set delivers the same technology without glass, but at approx. 49 cm and approx. 2.2 kg. If you already own a bowl, want it in a specific color, or prefer a push-fit bowl, you're better off with the set.

Perfect accessories for your Varity

• Bowls – there's no way around this: without a bowl the set can't be smoked, both push-fit and screw bowls are possible.
• Hoses – for up to four connections used at the same time.
• Phunnel tobacco heads – the head is not part of the set.

Who is this Varity suitable for?

The set is aimed at anyone who doesn't want the glass decided for them: if you already have a bowl in the cupboard, are after a particular color or shape, or deliberately want a push-fit bowl, you buy the hardware here and add the glass yourself. If instead you want to unbox a complete package and set it up right away, you're better served by the Clear or Frosted variant.

Black Steel is the right choice if you want the shisha to visually recede – no color ring, just black-coated stainless steel. And the 4 hose connections remain the argument here too for groups where several people smoke at once.

Care & construction

Before the first session the bowl is attached: screw bowls go onto the thread via the adapter, for push-fit bowls Moze offers a separate push-fit bowl adapter — across the brand, Moze designs its models for the usual 45 mm push-fit bowls. Then head, seal, hose and charcoal plate, and the setup is ready.

For cleaning, the splittable smoke column is disassembled and scrubbed clean with warm water and a brush; the set is made entirely of stainless steel, so there's no resin sleeve to be gentle with. Aggressive or abrasive cleaners are still off-limits, though, since they attack the black coating. Let everything dry well and check the seals regularly for cracks.
