Moze Varity Squad Black – smoke column set – Original Black

The smoke column set of the Moze Varity Squad Black comes deliberately without a glass bowl – and that's exactly the point: you choose the bowl yourself instead of using a supplied one. Moze explicitly designs the Varity for both types, "whether push-fit or screw bowl“, so you're not limited in your choice.

The Squad base carries four hose connections. Without a bowl the smoke column measures about 49 cm and weighs about 2.2 kg; it's built from stainless steel, the Sleeve Original Black from black POM. Delivered are the smoke column, charcoal plate and seals – the bowl comes separately.

Design & craftsmanship: Original Black on black Squad base

Original Black is the calmest variant in the series: a solid black POM sleeve on black-coated stainless steel, without a wave structure and without a second shade. POM is a technical plastic with a smooth, closed surface.

Because base, smoke column and sleeve share the same tone, the column reads as one continuous block. The color accent on this set is set by the bowl you add: a clear glass keeps the setup strictly monochrome, a colored one takes the lead.

Individually adjustable draw

The dip tube and smoke column of the Varity are splittable. Moze puts the core idea this way: „Because both the dip tube and the smoke column are individually splittable, you decide for yourself how your Varity feels when smoking.“ As the range, Moze names a more direct draw or a softer pull. Which combination gives you which result, you'll find out over a few sessions – the manufacturer doesn't prescribe an assignment, and we're not inventing one here either.

Behind this is the series' modular concept: the smoke column, dip tube, sleeve, charcoal plate, diffuser and blow-off ring are all standalone components, and extension segments are also available for the smoke column and dip tube to lengthen the column so the long sleeves can be used. These parts are not included in this item's scope of delivery – but they show just how far a Varity can be reconfigured.

Squad or Lounge? The comparison

The difference between the two Varity models lies solely in the base: the Squad Base has 4 hose connections, the Lounge Base has 1. The smoke column, dip tube, diffuser, charcoal plate and blow-off ring are the same components on both, and the dimensions and weight match too. Squad, then, means sessions for a group, Lounge means solo or two-person rounds – not better or worse. Unused connections on the Squad are simply capped, which is normal operation.

The second decision is the configuration. As a Clear Bowl or Frosted Bowl, the Varity comes with a glass bowl, measures approx. 52 cm and weighs approx. 4.1 kg; Clear and Frosted differ purely in the glass look. This smoke column set here is approx. 49 cm and approx. 2.2 kg without a bowl and leaves the bowl choice completely open to you.

Who is this Varity suitable for?

For groups of several, because the Squad Base brings four connections. And for anyone who already knows which bowl they want: if you already have glass bowls in the cabinet, are looking for a specific shape, or want to deliberately choose between push-fit and screw bowl, you don't pay extra here for a glass you'd swap out anyway.

To be upfront: if you want to unpack and start smoking right away, this set is the roundabout way. In that case, the Varity Squad as a Clear Bowl or Frosted Bowl is the better choice, since a bowl is already included there. The black POM sleeve is the option for anyone who prefers the shisha to stay understated.

Care & construction

Because the dip tube and smoke column are divisible anyway, the Varity can be disassembled extensively for cleaning – that's the practical side effect of the design. Rinse stainless steel parts with warm water and a brush, and clean the POM sleeve only with warm water and a soft cloth. Aggressive or abrasive agents don't belong on the metal or on the sleeve.

Afterward let all parts dry well before reassembling them. While you're at it, check the seals: if they sit cleanly, the setup stays airtight – porous or shifted seals are the most common cause of draw loss and a typical wear point.
