Moze Varity Squad Black – Smoke Column Set – Wavy Mint

If you already know which glass bowl you want on top, you don't need a second one thrown in. That's exactly what the Moze Varity Squad Black smoke column set in Wavy Mint is for: it includes the complete smoke column on the Squad base with four hose connections – and no bowl. Which glass goes on top is your call, since Moze explicitly designs the Varity for push-fit and screw bowls.

Without a bowl the setup stands about 49 cm tall and weighs about 2.2 kg. The load-bearing material is black-coated stainless steel, over which sits the mint-colored sleeve made of acrylic/epoxy resin. The box contains the smoke column with Squad Base and dip tube, the charcoal plate with 19 cm diameter as well as the seals.

Design & finish: Wavy Mint on Squad Black

Wavy Mint is a light, pastel green in the resin sleeve that stands out clearly against the black-coated base and the black charcoal plate. The wave structure that gives the Wavy series its name runs as a relief around the sleeve – it's not just visible, it's also noticeable to the touch.

More of the technology stays visible on this configuration than on the bowl variants: without glass underneath, the dip tube, blow-off ring and the transition to the base are exposed. That fits the idea behind the Varity – sleeve, charcoal plate, diffuser and blow-off ring are standalone components that Moze also carries individually.

Individually adjustable draw

Moze sums up the core of the Varity like this: „Because both the dip tube and the smoke column can be individually divided, you decide for yourself how your Varity feels when smoking.“ As the range, the manufacturer names a more direct draw on one side and a softer pull on the other. Which setup gives you which result isn't specified by Moze – you find that out by rebuilding it, and that's exactly what the series is designed for.

On the Varity, the blow-off is designed as its own ring and is thus a replaceable component; the product photos show it in two installation positions, up top under the charcoal plate and down at the base. The diffuser sits at the lower end of the dip tube and makes the draw quieter and smoother – it too is available as an individual part. In addition, Moze offers extension segments for the smoke column and dip tube that let you lengthen the column and use the long sleeves; they're not included in the scope of delivery of this set.

Squad or Lounge? The comparison

Exactly one component separates Squad and Lounge: the base. The Squad Base offers four hose connections, the Lounge Base one. Smoke column, dip tube, diffuser, blow-off ring and charcoal plate are the same parts on both, as are the dimensions and weight. More connections therefore don't smoke worse – unused connections are sealed, that's normal operation.

Within the Squad line you can choose between three configurations: with Clear Bowl made of clear glass, with Frosted Bowl made of satin-finished glass – both approx. 52 cm tall and approx. 4.1 kg – or this smoke column set without a bowl at approx. 49 cm and approx. 2.2 kg. Clear and Frosted differ only in the glass finish.

Who is this Varity suitable for?

This set suits you if you already own a bowl – say, from a previous shisha or as a spare part – and don't want to pay for a second piece of glass. It suits you just as well if you'd rather pick the bowl yourself: push-fit or screw bowl, clear or colored, tall or squat. With four connections on the Squad base, the shisha is built for group sessions where several people smoke at once.

It's less suitable if you want to order and get started right away. Without a bowl, hose, tobacco head and charcoal, the set won't smoke – if you want everything in one box, go for the Varity Squad Black with Clear or Frosted Bowl (about 52 cm, about 4.1 kg).

Care & construction

Stainless steel, resin sleeve and seals can handle warm water and a brush. Avoid abrasive or aggressive cleaners, as both the black coating and the resin sleeve react badly to them. After rinsing, dry all parts well and let them air out before reassembling.

When assembling, you first attach the bowl to the base, then the smoke column and dip tube, followed by the charcoal plate and tobacco head. Because the dip tube and smoke column are separable, assembly relies on the seals more often than with a one-piece shisha – so check them regularly, as they determine airtightness.
